Apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks

I’m writing my first blog post as I ride on an Amtrak train to Reno to make my way to my PCT hike starting point in Agua Dulce, CA later today. It will quite literally be a day of trains, planes and automobiles…and then hiking.

Me on a train.

I want to send a big shout out to Dr. Marilyn Croach who encouraged [read – directed] me to make my own website and blog to document and share this journey as opposed to using a medium such as Facebook. It was a bit painful at times, but this old fighter pilot figured out how to build a website. She definitely knew best!

I also want to thank Suzi Ball and Emilee Luke who were patient with me and gave me a lot of great web design mentoring to help get this website up to speed. They had to field such silly questions as, “what is a blog post?” – and “how do you use Instagram?”

So it all begins today. I’m excited for the adventure; a bit nervous, but it’s a good nervous. The type of feeling I had stepping out to the jet before a big mission; one that was going to be complicated, but also sure to be fun and exciting.

I can only imagine the questions that entered Thorny’s mind as you built this blog. Glad to see you’re doing well and it appears as though your hike is fulfilling it’s intention. 100 miles down! Keep on keepin’ on! Watching all the way!
